Fujisawa’s history is rich and intertwined with its strategic coastal location and role as a gateway between Tokyo and the ancient city of Kamakura. During the Edo period, Fujisawa developed as a post town along the famous Tōkaidō road, the main route connecting Edo (now Tokyo) with Kyoto.
